Class description: Chess is a game which combines creative thinking, logic and analytical skills, spatial relations and pattern recognition, as well as strategic and tactical planning. Making use of all these skills is what makes chess so fascinating as well as challenging.
In Advanced Chess we will delve into the concepts of methods of center control, learning classic and modern openings, the strategies of gambits and sacrifices, as well as long range planning and decision making. Chess is a game which involves making sound choices and judgments while also allowing for individual style. To be a good chess player requires the development of focus, patience, and careful planning while also emphasizing the ability to handle challenges with respect, skill, and sportsmanship.
Advanced Chess is designed for students who already play chess with proficiency. To enroll you need to have taken it before or consulted with Tony Wolff.
